This cake is the perfect reward at the end of a hard day… if I know that I have a few slices of it waiting for me in the fridge, then I think I could make it through any rough day thrown at me. This cake is like therapy.
It’s not for the faint of heart because this Chocolate Pound Cake with Chocolate Ganache from Oh My God Chocolate Desserts is so incredibly rich and dense—if you aren’t a diehard chocolate lover, it might be a bit too much for you. I love it because it’s so rich, but not overly sugar-sweet. The buttery dark chocolate poundcake is thick and has an impressive weight to it and is good served both hot and chilled. Its silky chocolate ganache topping adds just enough sweetness to send it over the top. It is SO GOOD.
The recipe here on OhMyGodChocolateDesserts.com is delightful as is, but I like to bump up the cocoa powder (I use raw cacao powder) to 1 cup and I double the ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips in both the cake and ganache recipe. It’s important not to overbake the poundcake even slightly (60 minutes is the maximum it should go, in my opinion) because it will end up dry. However, the cake gets more moist on the 2nd and 3rd day after baking, so don’t be too quick to judge if you accidentally let it go a minute or two over.
